Dan Milligan grew up in New England, living in northwest Connecticut, southern New Hampshire and Cape Cod. Fly-fishing for brookies and rainbows in small creeks draining Connecticut and New Hampshire together with Cape Cod’s salt-water fisheries of stripers and blues kept him occupied during the summer months. These fly-fishing adventures as a youngster sparked a lifelong obsession.
In 2000, Dan made his way to Missoula in pursuit of a degree in forestry and natural resource conservation. During his seven years in school, Dan made ample time to learn the ins and outs of western Montana rivers and streams. Rest assured, if Milligan has a day off during the guiding season he’ll be plying the waters himself.
During the off-season following hunting season, you’ll find him on multi-day winter campouts in the backcountry from the Mission Mountains to Teton Pass where he telemark skis and snowboards. Few folks exploit the outdoor diversity of Montana to the level Milligan does. Dan has made his home in Missoula’s Rattlesnake Valley and doesn’t plan on leaving anytime soon.
